Federal workers who have gone unpaid for more than a month now are turning to Uber/Lyft and other gig economy jobs to make ends meet. Hopefully that'll give any regulators in the bunch a little better insight into what we go through. And it will give them a very accurate insight into our worlds because they are now desperate for money too.

If you take someone who already has a good-paying job and tell them to go driver for Uber for a few hours to see what it's like - they won't really *feel* what it's like because they're not under the same financial pressures so many drivers are under. But these government workers are under severe financial pressure right now. Especially the ones who are turning to Uber & Lyft and the others during the shutdown.

Some are doing Airbnb, some are doing TaskRabbit, probably most are doing driving with Uber & Lyft. But all the gig companies are getting a try out by these government employees.

And if nothing else, at least Uber is bringing one government employee a much deeper appreciation for his real job! As he begs to get it back...

It's funny. I hear all the time "there's no job that's more secure than government work!"

Until the government's multiple heads are unable to agree on things.
